Dr Anna Dedousi is a veterinarian who graduated from the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the School of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she pursued further studies at the Department of Companion Animal Pathology at the University Clinic of the Veterinary School of AUTH. In 2009, she completed a doctoral thesis on poultry farming at the Department of Animal Science at the Veterinary School of AUTH. She worked as a veterinarian under a fixed-term private law contract at the Organization for the Payment and Control of Community Aid for Guidance and Guarantees (O.P.E.K.EP.E.). For a decade she worked as a private veterinarian in her own clinic. Since 2018, she has been working as a Researcher-Veterinarian at the Veterinary Research Institute of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – DIMITRA, specializing in the health and welfare of farm animals.
She has conducted research on various topics related to poultry health and welfare including keel bone damage in laying hens. She has studied the use of industrial by-products as feed additives, and the impact of these additives on the health, welfare and performance of farm animals. She has also studied the development and evaluation of welfare indicators in poultry and ruminants, and the design and evaluation of artificial lactation protocols for lambs. Other topics include the treatment of diarrhea syndrome in newborn ruminants using plant-based substances and the investigation of parameters/indicators for the rational use of antibiotics in farm animals, ruminants’ metabolic diseases etc. She has published more than 30 papers in prestigious national and international peer-reviewed journals and has given more than 30 presentations at conferences. As principal investigator, she has implemented four national research projects and worked on several national and international competitive projects as a member of the research team.
